| Why google? Why is that all the people like and rate google higher than other search engine?
Is it because of quality of search results they show or any other things.
And also why google show millions of pages for a small word?

| Currently Yahoo is powered by Google (Yahoo's pays Google lots of money to use Google's technology - Google built Yahoo's search engine).
Google is a search engine, while Yahoo is similar to a directory

Google is a search engine, while Yahoo is similar to a directory | That is not sure any more, it was the case about 2 years ago I guess, since then Yahoo has their own search technology

Google is a search engine, while Yahoo is similar to a directory | I don't think you are correct.yahoo is not a small company and they have all the resources to have their own search engine. May be i am wrong....can any one else clear this doubt on search engine.

| I may be wrong, but I recall a few months ago... something about Yahoo using Google's Adsense ads or having Yahoo have the ability to sell some Adsense things to consumers, but I am pretty sure that this was cancelled. | |

Google and Yahoo were in the talks of an advertising deal and it was canceled and Yahoo got screwed.

| May be it was in the time when both the Yahoo and Google where planning to merge or share resources. I think yahoo screwed it up. They made a mess with deal.

| I'm not sure why everyone uses Google. Over time, more and more people started to use Google, and it just spread. I guess that Google used viral marketing to make things work (even if they didn't know it). | |

It depends from keyword to keyword, you can't say that one search engine is always right.

| Strong branding. When I want to search for anything, I "google" because Google is the first thing I remember.
Strong algorithm. I tried to do research using multiple SEs/directories in many instances ... to me, Google always give me better search results. It does save my time.
Stay relevant. Google maintains its pole position in SE through continous improvement efforst. It follows the trend.

| Yes it is the quality that makes google no.1.
google is trying costantly to improve its search engines and all the hard work is seen in the search results.

Google is a webmaster site They offer webmaster tools , google adwords , google adsense , google analytics They offer everything a webmaster needs .
Yahoo is more for normal users , yahoo E-mail , Yahoo Answers , Yahoo Games (they focus on 2 things while Google focus on 1 thing) this is why google is more important for us
P.S: sorry if my information are wrong but i have visited yahoo 2-3 times only (I didn't find anything important for me)

| Yahoo - I only use it for email. I'm loyal to its email. Other than that - nope!
Google - to search anything! PLUS both adword & adsense.

| Yahoo is even paying people for making searches, that clearly states that they're not the most popular. | |
